Home Treatments for Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a complex and reoccurring autoimmune disorder that is characterised by red, flaky patches on the skin. There is no definitive cure for Psoriasis, but there are many treatments that are aimed at easing the symptoms. Here are some home treatments that you can do at home.
Dietary supplements may ease the symptoms of psoriasis from the inside. Sufferers have said that evening primrose oil, fish oil, vitamin D and milk thistle have helped with the symptoms. Fish oil that has been applied directly to the skin has also been reported to help for some. Ensure that the supplements you are taking do not interfere with other pre-existing conditions or have harmful side effects.
You can prevent dry skin by having a humidifier in your home or office as the air is kept moist. You can also keep your skin supple and from forming plaques with the use of sensitive skin moisturizers.
Soaps and Perfumes
Soaps and perfumes have fragrances and dyes in which can cause psoriasis to inflame. You need to find products that are for sensitive skin or ones that do not contain dyes and perfumes.
Your diet will play a vital role in the managing of psoriasis. The Natural Psoriasis Foundation lists soy, nuts, cranberries and chocolate as a few functional foods for treatment. You should also stay away from fatty foods and red meat as this has been effective for some.
Olive oil or vegetable oil can be applied to the affected areas and will lock in moisture and nutrients. During your next shower, massage a few tablespoons on scalp to loosen troublesome plaques.
Run a lukewarm bath with Epsom salt, mineral oil, milk or olive oil as these can sooth the itching and infiltrate scales and plaques. You should moisturise right after your bath for more benefits.
There is no single treatment for psoriasis and not all treatments will work for everyone. Implementing some of these home treatments with other option can help in reducing the itching and flaking.
